Big news out of Kalamazoo

Wow, big news out of Kalamazoo. And, I hate to say it, but this only improves the chances of the Komets joining the ECHL.

Paul Pickard is no longer president of the Wings.

Of course, Pickard and the Wings had a bitter parting in 2009, when they bolted the IHL for the ECHL.

But, I must admit, I always had it in the back of my mind that, even though the cities are only 118 miles or so apart, the Komets were loathe to join Pickard, who had been the IHL's commissioner and was one of those that spearheaded creation of that league.

In other news, Sean O'Connor has left the Evansville Icemen. Don't know why and don't know for how long.

Justin A. Cohn, pro sports coordinator for The Journal Gazette, has been covering the Fort Wayne Komets since 1997.
