Arrest made in quick-mart holdup

Police have arrested a Fort Wayne man accused of robbing a convenience store this month in Grabill.

Valance, a 41-year-old who goes by a single name, was preliminarily charged Thursday with robbery.

The night of Jan. 5, a clerk at Phil’s One Stop in Grabill told Allen County police that a man armed with a handgun had stolen cash and fled in a light-colored, four-door vehicle, court records said.

On Tuesday, one of the store owners saw a vehicle with that description in the Leo-Cedarville area and called police. An officer pulled over the vehicle and found that Valance was the driver, court records said.

In the vehicle, police discovered a pellet handgun and clothes similar to those worn by the robber.

During a search of Valance’s home, officers collected shoes consistent with the pattern left in the snow at the robbery scene, according to court records.

Valance, of the 5400 block of Old Maumee Road, was held Thursday at the Allen County Jail, with a bail amount of $20,000.
