CHEERS to the nice foursome couple at Triangle Park who picked up the bill for my wife and me when we went out to dinner with our 4-month-old son May 11. It was a very unexpected and a very amazing thing to do.

Web letter by Candy Brown: Who could be opposed to the benefits unions have secured?

People don’t have to work at a union job; they can go elsewhere if they choose.

I for one have had the pleasure of working more than 20 years at a union position.

By paying my monthly dues, my union bargains for me to have better wages, decent health care, a 40-hour work week and a safe work environment.

My union job allows me the ability to by a new car, dine out and shop locally, take my kids to the doctor, donate to local charities, take vacation time to volunteer, save for retirement and a workplace where seniority still means something.

I am proud of all the work my local union brothers and sisters do for my community and what it gives me the ability to do.

I would hate to see this right-to-work bill pass; all it would mean is more people would have no job security, no pension, no insurance, little vacation time and lower wages. I wonder what kind of person would want that for all of us.
