Meth, sawed-off shotgun seized


A call about a suspicious person at a Steuben County gasoline station ended in multiple drug and weapons charges Wednesday afternoon.

Deputies went to the Shell station at 6917 North Old U.S. 27 about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to check out a pickup truck in the parking lot, according to a statement posted on the Steuben County Sheriff's Department Facebook page.

It said officers found a sawed-off shotgun and numerous items that are commonly used to make meth.

Stephen N. Bickle, 53, who is listed by the sheriff's department as homeless, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of a legend drug, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

His bond amount was not immediately available.

The Angola Police Department, Fremont Police Department, Indiana conservation officers and the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team assisted at the scene.
