Mailed parcel leads to meth indictment

A federal grand jury indicted a 30-year-old woman on a single count of possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Anna Deck, of the 900 block of Columbia Avenue, was arrested in October by Fort Wayne police and charged in Allen Superior Court with dealing methamphetamine, a Class A felony punishable by 20 to 50 years in prison.

According to court documents, Deck was caught receiving a half-pound of meth in the mail from California.

A police dog detected the presence of the drug inside the package, and a postal inspector delivered it to her home, according to court documents said.

On Wednesday, a federal grand jury in Fort Wayne indicted Deck on a federal charge of possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine.

According to Allen Superior Court records, the state-level drug possession charge is pending as well.

A trial on that charge has been scheduled for next month.
