Jury convicts Ohioan of 9 child sex crimes

Johnson

An Allen Superior Court jury convicted an Ohio man Thursday of nine counts stemming from the molestation of a young girl from July 2009 until August 2011.

Joshua C. Johnson, 24, of Van Wert, was charged in September with three Class A felony counts of child molesting, two Class C felony counts of child molesting, child exploitation, possession of child pornography, display of matter harmful to minors and dissemination of matter harmful to minors.

The abuse came to light in August when a witness told investigators there was a video of Johnson repeatedly molesting the girl, according to court documents.

The girl’s mother told police that her daughter first disclosed the abuse to her when the girl was 3 years old, then again when she was 4, describing repeated sex acts and sexual intercourse, according to court documents.

During a search of Johnson’s cellphone, police found a number of anime images of child pornography, including bondage-type sexual images.

The verdict came Thursday afternoon after a two-day jury trial before Allen Superior Court Judge John Surbeck, according to officials with the county prosecutor’s office.

Sentencing will be at a later date.
