Pickup truck search leads to meth arrest

The search of a pickup in Steuben County led authorities to discover a sawed-off shotgun and materials for making methamphetamine, the sheriff’s department said.

Deputies went to the Pioneer truck stop at 6917 N. Old U.S. 27 in Fremont about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in response to a suspicious person. They came across Stephen N. Bickle, 53, in his pickup.

The sheriff’s department said a sawed-off shotgun and items for making meth were found in Bickle’s truck.

He was booked into the Steuben County Jail on felony charges of meth possession, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, manufacturing meth, illegal possession of a prescription drug, maintaining a common nuisance and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

He remained in custody Thursday evening.
