3 local hospitals on U.S. News' 'best regional' list

Three local hospitals are among 247 included on U.S. News & World Report’s list of Best Regional Hospitals 2011-12, officials announced Friday.

Dupont, Lutheran and Parkview hospitals are on the list that recognizes hospitals outside major metropolitan areas. U.S. News publishes a list of Best Hospitals rankings each July.

U.S. News each year evaluates almost 5,000 hospitals in 16 different medical specialties, looking at statistics including death rates, patient safety and procedure volumes.

“All Best Regional Hospitals are what we call ‘high performers’ in at least one medical specialty,” Avery Comarow, rankings editor, said in a statement. “They are fully capable of providing first-rate care, even to most patients who have serious conditions or need demanding procedures.”
