Role in theft ring brings 2-year term

After she admitted to being part of a smash-and-grab” theft ring that targeted cars in parking lots, 21-year-old Samantha Cole was sentenced Friday to two years in prison or home detention and two years of probation.

Cole, who pleaded guilty to corrupt business influence, must also pay $3,296 in restitution to three people who lost their credit cards in the thefts.

Cole was one of a number of people arrested and charged last fall with being part of two separate credit card theft rings. She is the first to plead guilty and be sentenced, according to court records.

Also charged in the theft ring are the alleged ringleader Chanse Starr, 38; Eva Fry, 33; Richard Carter, 41; Joshua Gaunt, 18; Brandon Hall, 21; and Kaylee Helvie, 18.
