A Fort Wayne woman will spend no time behind bars after she pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal recklessness in the shooting of her husband.
According to court documents, Shalanda Woodfin, 38, was in bed with her husband when she shot him in the back of the head with a 9 mm pistol. She told police she wanted him to feel pain. Woodfin prevented him from calling for help on his phone. A neighbor took him to the emergency room after he evaded Woodfin.
Though she was initially charged with aggravated battery and criminal confinement, both Class B felonies, in late December, Woodfin pleaded guilty to a Class C felony charge of criminal recklessness causing injury.
In exchange for her guilty plea, the more serious charges were dismissed. She was sentenced Friday to four years in prison, but that sentence was suspended. Allen Superior Judge John Surbeck sentenced her to four years of probation.
