Two separate accidents in Steuben County sent three people to the hospital.
At about 1 a.m. Sunday, Franklin H. Hurt, 49, of Hamilton, was driving his pickup truck into the garage at 160 Lane 280 A Hamilton Lake, when a woman who was standing near the truck slipped on the ice and fell underneath it, according to a statement from the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department.
Michelle Carey, 36, of Hamilton, was then run over by the rear tires of Hurt’s pickup, the statement said.
Carey was flown from the scene by Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Hospital, police said. Carey’s condition was not released by police.
Hurt was later arrested on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the statement.
At about 9 p.m. Saturday, Joseph Sturges was driving a Mercury Mountaineer north on County Road 500 West from County Road 200 North when the vehicle started sliding on the icy road, the sheriff’s department said in a statement.
The vehicle slide off the west side of the road and hit a tree, police said.
Police said Sturges, 37, of Angola, left the scene and started walking west, leaving Chad Bowles, 39, of Vicksburg, Mich., trapped in the vehicle.
Bowles was pulled from the vehicle by members of the Angola Fire Department and was taken to Cameron Hospital with lower leg injuries, the statement said.
Police were able to track Joseph about 2 miles away from the crash and found him in a residence. He was taken to Cameron Hospital with head injures, police said.
Conditions for the men were not released and the crash is still under investigation.
