Cougars defeat ranked foe again

Ethan Hussey scored 20 points for Saint Francis in a 69-66 victory against No. 21 Goshen on Saturday.

Qadr Owens had 17 points and eight rebounds while Kevin Dawson finished with 11 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (16-8, 7-5 Mid-Central College Conference).

Scott Kohne scored 12 points in the home win.

It’s the Cougars’ third straight win over an NAIA Top 25 opponent. Saint Francis is tied for second in the MCC, a game behind Grace.

HUNTINGTON 81, GRACE 77: Ryan Boester made six three-pointers and scored 24 points for the Foresters in the road victory. Caleb Kennedy added 20 points for Huntington (14-10, 6-6 MCC).

Nick Teeter and Shane Merryman scored 14 and 10 points, respectively. Merryman also had seven rebounds.

Bruce Grimm Jr. scored 33 for Grace (18-5, 8-4). Dennis Williams finished with 14 points.

TRINE 66, KALAMAZOO 58: Scott Rogers had 24 points and seven rebounds for the Thunder in a home win. Ian Jackson and Braden Knight had 14 and 10 points for Trine (12-7, 5-2 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association).

INDIANA TECH 81, NORTHWESTERN OHIO 70: Rodney Bartholomew recorded a double-double, finishing with 22 points and 14 rebounds as the Warriors (17-5, 7-5 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference) won at home. Jeff Hoskins scored 19 points, making five three-pointers. Antonio Cannon scored 11 points.

HANOVER 61, MANCHESTER 45: Jordan Moss finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Spartans in a road loss. Jason Spindler led Manchester (7-12, 5-7 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference) with 19 points.

VALPARAISO 55, WIS.-MILWAUKEE 52: In Milwaukee, Ryan Broekhoff scored 11 points as the Crusaders rallied late. Broekhoff also had a game-high eight rebounds for the Crusaders (15-8, 8-3 Horizon League), who have won five of six. Kevin Van Wijk scored 10 points.

The Panthers (14-9, 7-4) got 13 points from Tony Meier and 10 from James Haarsma.

OHIO 59, BALL STATE 54: In Athens, Ohio, Walter Offutt scored five of his 13 points in the final 3 minutes to help the Bobcats (17-4, 5-2 Mid-American Conference) hold off the Cardinals.

Offutt broke a 55-point tie with a layup and then made a free throw to put the Bobcats up by three with 27 seconds left.

Jones finished with 11 points and 15 rebounds, and Chris Bond had 14 and 12 for the Cardinals (12-6, 4-3).

GREEN BAY 80, BUTLER 68: In Green Bay, Wis., Brennan Cougill scored 21 points and Alec Brown added 19 to lift Green Bay (9-12, 5-6 Horizon), which led 33-32 at halftime.

Roosevelt Jones led the Bulldogs (12-11, 6-5) with 16 points and eight rebounds.

Women

HUNTINGTON 60, GRACE 54: Pazia Speed scored 14 points and Lauren Meese added 13 for the Foresters in a home victory. Kelsey Green had 12 points and eight rebounds for Huntington (15-7, 7-5 MCC). Kiera Gray scored 23 points for Grace (14-10, 6-6). Danielle Boykin added 14 points in the loss.

SAINT FRANCIS 68, GOSHEN 56: Amanda Pedro had 11 points and 11 rebounds in the Cougars’ road victory. Kayla Mullins led Saint Francis (15-9, 7-5 MCC) with 17 points. Rebecca Burch scored 14 points. Meghan Prible had 12 points.

No. 12 WISCONSIN-GREEN BAY 65, VALPARAISO 37: In Valparaiso, Julie Wojta scored 14 of her 19 points in the first half and Wisconsin-Green Bay remained unbeaten.

The Phoenix (19-0, 9-0 Horizon), who along with No. 1 Baylor are the only undefeated teams left, led by three early on before closing the first half on a 32-11 run to take a 24-point lead at the break.

Gina Lange scored a career-high 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting to lead Valparaiso (5-15, 1-8).

MIAMI (OHIO) 72, BALL STATE 61: At Oxford, Ohio, Suzanne Grossnickle scored 18 points in the Cardinals’ loss. She also collected six rebounds. Brittany Carter scored 10 points for Ball State (7-14, 2-6 Mid-American Conference). The Cardinals had 20 turnovers.

CALVIN 73, TRINE 26: The Thunder had almost as many turnovers (22) as points in the road loss as Calvin remained unbeaten (19-0, 11-0 MIAA). Aleesha Bullock scored six points for Trine (9-11, 3-8).

NORTHWESTERN OHIO 70, INDIANA TECH 53: Yasmine Coleman scored 15 points for the Warriors in a home loss. Brittany Jones had 13 points and 10 rebounds for Indiana Tech (11-13, 3-9 WHAC).

HANOVER 63, MANCHESTER 41: Becki Lowden scored 10 points for the Spartans in a road loss. Manchester (13-6, 9-3 HCAC) had 25 turnovers.
