‘Go Red for Women’ on Friday, Cheri Daniels says

Statement issued Thursday:

INDIANAPOLIS (February 2, 2012) – In partnership with the American Heart Association, First Lady Cheri Daniels is asking Hoosiers to participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 3. The goal of the annual event is to raise awareness about women’s cardiovascular disease.

“We’ve made significant progress in spreading the message that heart disease is the number one killer of women, but there’s still plenty of work to do,” said Daniels. “Wearing red is a simple way to bring attention to the importance of living a heart-healthy life.”

The Governor’s Residence will be illuminated with red light during the month of February. Red flags also have been placed in front of the house along Meridian Street.

The first lady’s Heart to Heart initiative encourages individuals to have conversations with their families and friends about heart health. Mrs. Daniels travels across the state to speak about the program on college campuses, at hospitals and to civic organizations.
