  • CHL vs. ECHL lawsuit makes for interesting reading
If you are interested in this sort of thing, here is a lawsuit that was filed against the ECHL by the CHL, in which it is alleged the ECHL tried to "poach" the Rapid City Rush and Allen Americans.
  • Ex-Komet becomes a coach
Former Komets player Kevin Kaminski has been hired to coach the Portland Junior Pirates.
  • Mesiner signs with CHL team
Goaltender Ben Meisner, who played last season for the Komets, has signed to play with Allen of the CHL this season.

Contest for Ice Chips readers

OK, readers of Ice Chips. I really do appreciate you. And to prove it, we're going to have a contest.

The winner will receive two tickets to the Komets' game Feb. 18 against the Allen Americans.

These are two of the top teams in the CHL. And the seats are in Section 216, Row 12. Those are center ice.

Here's what's going to happen ...

I want you to write me a small essay, no longer than 300 words, on what changes you would make to the Komets and why.

It's kind of a broad topic. It can be about this season's team, the organization as a whole, changing to another league, anything.

Ben Smith and I will judge it. And there's nothing that says a short and sweet post won't win, if it's good enough.

And I'll come up with a second-place prize, probably a puck signed by a player or something along those lines.

Post your essay in the comments section here. I recommend you write it in another program, like notepad, and then paste it. You don't want to lose all your work, just in case.

Have some fun with this. And who knows, maybe the team will actually see what you write. We all know they do read Ice Chips, after all.

Finally, I DON'T want people knocking what others write under this post. This is for essays and questions about them, nothing more.

P.S. If you would rather me post the essay for you, I can do so. Just email me at
