Key matchup: Jack Haupt, who averages less than 7 points, made 7 of 9 three-pointers and scored 21 points to help the Leathernecks beat IPFW 75-65 Jan. 7 at Memorial Coliseum. In the same game, Gaines scored 30 points for the Mastodons but was the only IPFW player in double figures.

The skinny: It’s the beginning of a key two-game road trip for IPFW, with the second game coming Saturday at IUPUI. … The Mastodons are coming off a 74-43 loss to South Dakota State at the Gates Center. The 43 points are the fewest since losing to North Dakota State by the same score on New Year’s Eve 2008. … Seven of IPFW’s final eight games of the regular season are on the road, with the only home game against Summit League-leading Oral Roberts on Feb. 15.
