Testimony starts in murder trial

An Allen Superior Court jury heard opening statements and testimony Tuesday in the first day of the murder trial of Patrick Fluker.

Fluker, 21, is charged with murder in the Sept. 3, 2010, shooting death of 29-year-old Tiffany Mendez.

According to court documents and testimony, Fluker was picked up by Officer Benjamin MacDonald in the area of Broadway and Parkview after a nearby resident reported the sound of gunshots.

Fluker was urinating on a nearby building and when MacDonald took him into custody, he had paperwork from a car reported stolen and later found in the area, according to testimony.

Fluker also had a Walmart receipt in his pocket, recording a Sept. 2, 2010, purchase of 9 mm ammunition, according to court documents.

While MacDonald dealt with Fluker at the scene, other Fort Wayne Police officers located the body of Mendez, naked and still warm, according to court documents.

She died from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to statements made in court.
