Net sex sting lures 9 men to local hotel

The men saw the ad online that offered “a high class personal experience,” called the number listed and talked to a woman before agreeing to meet her at a hotel on Fort Wayne’s north side.

Throughout the afternoon and evening Friday, at least seven men showed up at the hotel, had a conversation with the woman and allegedly agreed to participate in sex acts or have sex with an undercover officer, according to court documents filed Monday.

The men agreed to pay between $50 and $1,000, according to court records.

Those arrested were preliminarily charged with a misdemeanor count of patronizing a prostitute. they ranged in age from 41 to 68. The Journal Gazette generally does not identify those charged with misdemeanor crimes.

Court computer records indicate nine men were arrested, but court documents for only seven of the men were available Monday.

Most of the men were from Fort Wayne, but one man was from Avilla and another was from Montana.

One man offered $1,000 for an “overnight visit” with the woman he believed was offering him a “high class personal experience” described in an Internet ad, court documents said.

At least four of the men saw the ad posted at backpage.com, according to court documents. The site is similar to Craigslist.com with ads from more than 400 cities.

The men were all released from the Allen County Lockup on Friday on their own recognizance.

Officer Raquel Foster, police spokeswoman, could not provide any additional information. A voicemail message left for Sgt. Mark Walters, head of the vice and narcotics bureau, was not returned Monday.
