Prof’s lecture could evolve into survival of fittest theories
The hullabaloo over a proposed creationism bill in the General Assembly has, unfortunately, led to a degeneration of civility and rational debate among some letters to the editor writers. But the heated rhetoric also will likely increase interest in an upcoming event at IPFW.
Patricia Kelley, PhD., from the University of North Carolina, will be at the university on Feb. 23 as a
Paleontological Society Distinguished Lecturer. Her visit is sponsored by the Department of Geosciences and the School of Arts and Sciences.
She will be delivering two lectures that are open to the public. The topic of the first lecture: The Arms Race from a Snails Perspective: Evolution of the Naticid Gastropod Predator-Prey System will be during the day and will likely draw a smaller but more specialized crowd.
Attendance for her second lecture: Evolution and Creation: Conflicting or Compatible? is sure to be more robust in every way.
Her lecture on creationism will be at 7:30 p.m. in room 168 of the Science Building. Visit www.paleosoc.org/speakerseries.html for more information.
