Mastodons’ slide continues; lose fourth straight

– Lee Fisher had a double-double and Chicago State closed the game with a 17-2 run to defeat IPFW 63-57 in a non-conference game Tuesday night.

Trey McCorkle paced the Mastodons (10-14) with 21 points. Frank Gaines scored 16 for IPFW, a Summit League team that dropped its fourth in a row.

The Mastodons led 55-46 with 4 minutes to go. But then Fisher’s basket started the 17-2 run on which the Cougars finished the game. Simmons’ three-pointer with 1:47 left gave Chicago State the lead for good at 56-55.

Fisher scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Cougars (3-20), who broke a three-game losing streak.

Jacobby Anderson added 11 points and Ardarius Simmons 10 for Chicago State of the Great West Conference, which defeated IPFW for the first time in school history, having been 0-5.

INDIANA WESLEYAN 72, SAINT FRANCIS 70: The No. 20 Cougars’ five-game winning streak came to an end in Indianapolis at the hands of the No. 15 Wildcats.

Qadr Owens scored 19 for Saint Francis (18-9, 9-6 MCC), which also got 15 points from Seth Small, 13 from Ethan Hussey and 10 from Kevin Dawson.

Derrick Troyer scored 21 to lead four Wesleyan (18-9, 10-5) players in double-digit scoring. Patrick Hopkins had 18, and Jordan Weidner and Aaron Martin added 11 and 10.

BETHEL 89, HUNTINGTON 80: In Mishawaka, Zach Miller’s 21 points led five Pilots (15-11, 6-8 MCC) in double-digit scoring against the Foresters (15-11, 7-7).

Matt Schauss scored 20 for Bethel, which got 11 from Landon Booker and 10 each from Darrell Hopkins and Michael Mislan.

Caleb Kennedy scored 32 for Huntington, and Shane Merryman added 17.
