Hundreds of pot plants, stolen Harley seized

FORT WAYNE -- A man who lives across the street from the Elmhurst High School building is facing federal and local charges after more than 300 marijuana plants were confiscated.

The Allen County Drug Task Force announced Friday that it served a search warrant Thursday at a home in the 3800 block of Sand Point Road with help from the Allen County SWAT team.

The large setup, which is classified as a hydroponic operation, netted 304 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, the sheriff's department said.

Detectives also found a stolen 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, the announcement said.

James E. McClurg, 46, was arrested and has a federal hold on the marijuana grow operation, the sheriff's department said. It said he will have a hearing in the near future. The street value of the plants was about $500,000, the sheriff's department said.

Locally, McClurg was charged with receiving stolen auto parts.

The case began after an alert county Civil Division officer attempting to serve civil papers at the address a few weeks ago noticed a strong odor of raw marijuana, the announcement said.
