Leo falls just short

Leo coach Carrie Shappell got a little choked up talking about her team's 43-35 overtime loss to Concordia in the Garrett Sectional finals Saturday.

The Lions had beaten No. 4 Angola 45-42 in the sectional semifinals a day earlier and were seven seconds away from beating No. 7 Concordia in the finals.

But Lauren Marinko's three-pointer with :07 left sent the game into overtime tied at 32, and the Cadets outscored the Lions 11-3 in the extra session.

"I have never been more proud of a team," Shappell said, then composing herself after a few tears were shed. "They have blown all of our minds."

Leo lost 66-33 in the regular season finale to Homestead before beating Garrett and Angola in the sectional.

"We talk to our kids that everything that happens during the season is for the postseason," Shappell said. "I am just blessed to have great kids. We had a great run."
