Awards

Daniel Schumick of Fort Wayne and John Hawley of Spencerville were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on Jan. 29. Both are a part of St. Vincent de Paul Boy Scout Troop 2.

General Credit Union in Fort Wayne won the national Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award.

Giving back

Indiana Michigan Power Co. awarded $1,000 to the Allen County Education Partnership’s Project READS program.

Parkview Health helped an Alabama doctor rebuild his medical office that was destroyed during a tornado last year, donating filing cabinets, exam tables, scales and lobby furniture. Dr. Keith Morrow has been the only physician for the past 25 years in two small towns affected by the tornado.

Woodburn Christian Children’s Home received $2,500 through America’s Farmers Grow Communities. Ben and Steve Moore of Moore Farms in Woodburn were selected as winners in the program and donated the money to the children’s home.

Lakeside Middle School received a $5,000 K-12 education grant from Kroger Co.’s Central Division to help reduce violence among adolescents in the community.

Apple Sauce Inc., an Indiana franchise group of Applebee’s, donated $81,553 to Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Fort Wayne Habitat for Humanity Restore received 31 pallets of electrical supplies worth $1.3 million from Connecticut Electric Inc.

Fort Wayne Derby Girls raised $900 during its charity bout Jan. 8, in which $400 will go to the Aliahna Lemmon benefit fund and $500 to Erin’s House for Grieving Children in Aliahna’s name.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking nominations for its 2013 Robert Ross MDA National Personal Achievement Awards. Nominations can be made online at www.mda.org/paa. Deadline for nominations is Feb. 24.
