Boyfriend jailed in beating of 2 women

A Fort Wayne man was arrested, accused of strangling his pregnant girlfriend and then battering her sister when she tried to intervene.

Timothy A. Grant, 29, of the 4500 block of South Anthony Boulevard, was charged Friday with battery, domestic battery and strangulation.

Police responded at 10:54 a.m. Monday to a reported domestic battery. Grant’s girlfriend and her sister were crying and very upset when police arrived, court records said.

The victims told police Grant became upset when he found text messages on his girlfriend’s phone. Grant grabbed his girlfriend by the back of her neck, pushed her back to the bedroom where her 3-year-old son was, threw her on the bed and got on top of her, police said.

Grant was yelling about the text messages and was trying to find out who the father of her baby was, the women told police. When Grant’s girlfriend tried to get up, he grabbed her around the neck with one hand, started to strangle her and then hit her in the mouth, causing her to bleed, court records said.

The woman’s sister then entered the room and tried to get Grant off the woman. Grant then started fighting the sister by putting her in a headlock, according to court documents.

Police said the women were not seriously injured and refused medical attention.

Grant was later arrested as he was trying to file a police report. He is being held in lieu of $7,500 bail and will appear in court Tuesday.
