Komets’ loss snaps 4-game win streak

– Brett Lutes scored two goals as Dayton topped the visiting Komets 5-0 on Saturday, snapping Fort Wayne’s four-game winning streak.

Gerry Festa made 22 saves for Fort Wayne (29-14-2). Larry Sterling made 50 saves for Dayton (16-22-9). Fort Wayne was shut out for the first time since a 5-0 loss to Evansville on Oct. 22.

Lutes scored the first two goals of the game. His first goal, at 12:13 of the first period, was on a power play. Dayton went 3 of 5 on the power play. The Komets were 0 for 3.

Dayton scored four goals in the second period. Lutes scored his second goal at 11:59. Matt Baxter scored at 14:57. Tim Hartung and Nic Polaski scored at 17:20 and 19:57, respectively. The last two were power-play goals.

The Komets outshot Dayton 50 to 27. Fort Wayne had 19 shots in the third. Brett Smith’s five-game point streak ended.

Fort Wayne is at Bloomington today.
