Rangers keep up mastery against Flyers

– Everything seems to go right for the New York Rangers when they play the Flyers, even their anemic power play.

Ryan Callahan scored three goals and the Rangers beat Philadelphia 5-2 on Saturday for their seventh straight win over the Flyers.

Marian Gaborik and Artem Anisimov also had goals for the Eastern Conference-leading Rangers, who broke out of their power-play funk and improved to 5-0 against the Flyers this season – including a win in the Winter Classic.

It was a rare display on special teams that catapulted the Rangers to their second victory over Philadelphia in seven days. New York had a season-high three goals on the power play.

“We felt it was coming,” Callahan said. “We knew we had guys who can execute. It was a matter of getting some bounces.”

Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds had Philadelphia’s goals. The Flyers have lost four of five, and are losing their hold on fourth place in the East.

PANTHERS 3, DEVILS 1: In Newark, N.J., Scott Clemmensen stopped 27 shots against his former team to lead Florida. Sean Bergenheim, Kris Versteeg and Mikael Samuelsson scored for the Panthers, who have won four of six. Steve Bernier scored for the Devils.

BRUINS 4, PREDATORS 3, SO: In Boston, Tyler Seguin and Patrice Bergeron scored shootout goals to lift the Bruins. Boston forced overtime when Milan Lucic scored a power-play goal with 67 seconds left in regulation after goalie Tim Thomas was pulled for an extra skater.

PENGUINS 8, JETS 5: In Pittsburgh, Evgeni Malkin added to his NHL-leading point total, scoring a goal and dishing out four assists for the Penguins. Kris Letang scored twice and had an assist for the Penguins.

ISLANDERS 2, KINGS 1, OT: In Uniondale, N.Y., Mark Streit’s goal 1:36 into overtime lifted the Islanders. The Islanders improved to 7-2-2 in their last 11 games, but the Kings (26-19-11) continued to struggle on their six-game road trip. The Kings have scored just six goals in five games on their trip.

OILERS 4, SENATORS 3, OT: In Ottawa, Taylor Hall scored 17 seconds into overtime, and Edmonton snapped a two-game losing streak. Nikolai Khabibulin made 39 saves for the Oilers. The Senators have lost eight of nine (1-7-1).

LIGHTNING 2, SABRES 1: In Buffalo, N.Y., Steven Stamkos had a goal and assist as Tampa Bay earned its seventh win in 10 games. Mathieu Garon made 26 saves, and Steve Downie also scored during the Lightning’s two-goal second period.

CANADIENS 5, MAPLE LEAFS 0: In Toronto, Carey Price turned aside 32 shots as Montreal hammered Toronto after the Maple Leafs retired the number of longtime former captain Mats Sundin.

Erik Cole, Rene Bourque, Max Pacioretty, Lars Eller and Mathieu Darche scored goals for Montreal.
