FORT WAYNE -- With the most serious charges against him dismissed for lack of clear evidence, Edward Kinslow was sentenced to eight years in prison Monday on a single charge of involuntary manslaughter.
A convicted rapist, Kinslow, 51, had been charged with murder, felony murder, and rape in connection with the May 2010 death of Darlene Day inside her Fort Wayne home.
But as the investigation continued as the case moved to trial, DNA other than Kinslow's also was found on her body.
While her death had been attributed to blunt-force trauma to the head, defense attorneys said cocaine was found in Day's body as well, and the bleeding on her brain could have been caused by the amount of time between her death and the discovery of her body.
In January, Kinslow pleaded guilty to the Class C felony charge of involuntary manslaughter.
