Woman critically injured in crash is ID’d

A 40-year-old Fort Wayne woman who was critically injured Sunday night when her car struck a tree has been identified.

The Fort Wayne Police Department said that just before 8:30 p.m., Tammy J. Bottorf was going east in the 5900 block of East State Boulevard, near Maplecrest Road.

Witnesses told police the woman’s red 2001 Ford Taurus was straddling both eastbound lanes and going very fast. The car then went off the road and ran head-on into a tree, police said.

Medics determined she was in stable condition at the scene. At a local hospital, she was downgraded to critical condition.

Investigators said they believe speed and alcohol factored into the crash. A test at the hospital showed that the driver had a blood-alcohol content of 0.31 percent, nearly four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.
