Driver critical after car hits tree

A female driver was listed in critical condition after a one-car crash Sunday night, according to Fort Wayne police.

The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. in the 5900 block of East State Boulevard.

Witnesses told police the Ford Taurus was traveling at a high rate of speed and was straddling both eastbound lanes of East State Boulevard before leaving the roadway and crashing head-on into a tree.

First responders listed the driver in stable condition. She was rushed to a hospital where her condition was downgraded to critical but stable, police said.

Police believe speed and alcohol to be factors in the crash. The driver was found at the hospital to have a blood-alcohol level of 0.31 percent, police said.
