South-side teen, dogs escape fire

A teenage boy and several dogs escaped a house fire Sunday afternoon on the city’s south side, according to the Fort Wayne Fire Department.

Firefighters were sent to 3710 South Park Drive, near East Rudisill Boulevard, at 1:46 p.m. and found the two-story house full of smoke.

In the kitchen, flames were coming from the area of a dryer. The fire, which caused moderate damage, was quickly put out, the fire department said.

Before firefighters arrived, the teen, who was the only one home, safely evacuated the house, along with the dogs. He told fire officials he heard a squeal come from the dryer area and then saw flames in the dryer.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
