K's win, Chaulk suffers mild concussion

It began with Colin Chaulk going down and out. It ended with the Komets counting Bloomington out.

Chaulk fought Ryan Palmer in the opening seconds Tuesday at Bloomington, Ill., and left the ice wobbling.

Coach Al Sims said later he had a slight concussion and “we’ll see how he is for Friday.”

His hockey team fared somewhat better.

After going down, too, by a 2-0 count after a period, the Komets rallied on goals from Frankie DeAngelis, Chris Auger and Jamie Milam to beat Bloomington 3-2. Milam got the game-winner from Brett Smith and David Starenky at the 11:51 mark of the third period.

In the second period, DeAngelis scored from Jamie Lovell10:28, and Auger tied it at 16:34 on assists from Starenky and Smith.

“You can’t say enough about the character of our hockey team,” Sims said.

Notes: Leo Thomas missed the last eight games because of personal reasons but returned Tuesday, replacing Jesse Bennefield.
