No more sad songs for Adele

Adele
Henderson

Adele’s songs about breakups and heartache have made her a multi-Grammy award winner but she insists she’s done with all that.

In an interview featured in the March issue of Vogue magazine, the 23-year-old says people are “surprised” when they meet her because she’s not melancholy like her music. In fact, the singer vows to “never” write a breakup record again and adds she’s “done being a bitter witch.”

Adele won six Grammy awards Sunday night, including record and song of the year. “21” was 2011’s best-selling album.

Grammys rate high

The Nielsen Co. says the Grammy Awards telecast made sweet music in the ratings, delivering its largest audience since 1984.

According to preliminary figures released Monday, more than 39 million viewers flocked to the CBS broadcast, making it the second most-watched Grammys in history. That exceeds last year’s Oscars broadcast, which was seen by 37.6 million viewers.

Sunday’s Grammys broadcast was notable not only for the numerous trophies dispensed to recording artists but also for its role in serving as a memorial to Whitney Houston, a six-time winner. The superstar singer died unexpectedly Saturday. She was 48.
