Beagles left behind in foreclosure need homes

PORT CLINTON, Ohio – Animal protection workers in northwestern Ohio are seeking foster homes for 13 beagles that were seized from a foreclosed property after the owners apparently moved out and left the dogs behind.

The Sandusky Register (http://bit.ly/xoRsI8) reported that a neighbor had complained about the noise and odor from the property. That prompted police to visit the home in Port Clinton, about 35 miles east of Toledo.

Humane officer Denny Hammond said the owners had been returning to feed the dogs, but the beagles were living in unsanitary conditions. Police found the floors covered in animal waste.

The local shelter is too small to hold all of the beagles, so the Humane Society of Ottawa County is asking for volunteers to serve as foster homes.
