A woman who police say was drunk when she crashed her vehicle into a tree was upgraded to serious condition Monday, Fort Wayne police said.
Just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday, the driver was traveling east in the 5900 block of East State Boulevard, near Maplecrest Road.
Witnesses told police the woman’s 2001 Ford Taurus was straddling both eastbound lanes and speeding. The car then went off the road and struck a tree, police said.
Investigators believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. A test at the hospital indicated the driver, Tammy J. Bottorf, 40, of Fort Wayne, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.31 percent, nearly four times the legal limit of 0.08 percent, police said.
