Mastodons better, but still lose

In 40 minutes of basketball, IPFW has outscored Oral Roberts 67-62. Thing is, the 40 minutes constituted the two first halves in games this season between the Mastodons and Golden Eagles.

IPFW had a three-point halftime lead, built it to nine, then let it slide as Oral Roberts defeated the Mastodons 75-71 on Wednesday at Memorial Coliseum.

While the win clinched the Summit League regular season championship for Oral Roberts (24-5, 16-1), the loss for IPFW (10-16, 4-12) was its sixth straight and 10th in its last 11 games.

IPFW heads into its final two games of the Summit League tied with UMKC with one playoff spot up for grabs. The Mastodons finish at UMKC on Feb. 25.

Frank Gaines led IPFW with 28 points, and Trey McCorkle had 12.
