FORT WAYNE -- Mayor Tom Henry believes Fort Wayne is poised for success, thanks to numerous efforts to improve the community.
During Henry's fifth State of the City address, given Wednesday at the downtown Allen County Public Library, the mayor highlighted several successes during his first term in office.
Those included a new recycling contract, construction of The Harrison and keeping the crime rate low.
The 30-minute speech offered a few new proposals, including a new private volleyball complex to be constructed next to the ice complex near the intersection of Lima Road, Fernhill Avenue and Wells Street.
The mayor also said the city will move to narrow Washington and Jefferson boulevards downtown from four to three lanes to make them more pedestrian- and business-friendly.
The mayor also said a new online permitting portal will be unveiled in the near future, and that he expects reports within 90 days from the groups examining how to spend the nearly $80 million from the lease and sale of the city's electric utility.
