Footprints in snow lead to stolen safe

CLARKSVILLE, Ind. – A southern Indiana man faces a burglary charge after officers followed footprints in the snow from a burglarized store to his apartment.

The News and Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/wo8N6W) that 24-year-old Bryan Weidner of Clarksville was arrested early Tuesday in the Ohio River city a few miles north of Louisville, Ky., and remained jailed Wednesday in Jeffersonville on a preliminary felony burglary charge.

Two Clarksville officers called to investigate a break-in at a Dairy Mart spotted footprints in the snow and followed them to a nearby apartment complex, where residents gave them permission to check inside.

Chief Mark Palmer says Weidner admitted breaking into the store after officers found a pair of shoes matching the footprints they followed and then found a safe stolen from the store inside a bedroom closet.
