Notre Dame focuses on K-12 education with lectures

SOUTH BEND — The University of Notre Dame is continuing its yearlong focus on finding ways to improve education in America from kindergarten through high school with lectures from the Michigan education superintendent and an educational historian.

Michigan Superintendent of Public Instruction Mike Flanagan will talk about education reform policies during a talk Feb. 28. Educational historian and author Diane Ravitch will discuss whether the public education system is in crisis during a talk April 10. Ravitch is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and served in education roles in both the Clinton and George H.W. Bush administrations.

The year-long series called "Reimagining School" is looking at ways public schools can improve instruction even as political issues threaten funding and school programs.
