K’s win; Chaulk suffers concussion

It began with Colin Chaulk going down and out. It ended with the Komets counting Bloomington out with a 3-2 win.

Chaulk fought Ryan Palmer in the opening seconds Tuesday at Bloomington, Ill., and left the ice wobbling. Coach Al Sims said he had a slight concussion and “we’ll see how he is for Friday.”

His hockey team fared somewhat better.

After going down, too, by a 2-0 count after a period, the Komets rallied on goals from Frankie DeAngelis, Chris Auger and Jamie Milam. Milam got the game-winner from Brett Smith and David Starenky at the 11:51 mark of the third period.

In the second period, DeAngelis scored from Jamie Lovell at 10:28, and Auger tied it at 16:34 on assists from Starenky and Smith.

“You can’t say enough about the character of our hockey team,” Sims said.

Notes: Leo Thomas missed the last eight games because of personal reasons but returned Tuesday, replacing Jesse Bennefield.
