Ants president: "We're happy to be here"

Even though the Mad Ants have lost five consecutive games inside Memorial Coliseum, including Thursday's 113-108 setback to Erie, the team plans on calling it its NBA Development League home.

Ants president Jeff Potter confirmed that his team was rumored to have been interested in leaving the Coliseum for the nearly $7 million sports complex that is to be built near the Lutheran Healthy Sports Center at the intersection of Fernhill Avenue, Wells Street and Lima Road.

But Potter, following the Ants' loss in which Erie made 16 three-point shots on the Coliseum floor, said his team is staying put.

"We have nothing to do with the facility," he said. "We don't plan to have anything to do with it. We're in the Coliseum; we're happy to be here. It's a great facility, and we look forward to growing bigger and better in here."

The proposed complex will be a 57,000-square-foot building that has room for 12 volleyball courts. Plans also say it can house gymnastics, wrestling and also basketball.

Since joining the D-League, the Ants have played their home games at the Coliseum.
