FORT WAYNE – Holland Elementary School is making plans for a memorial to honor Aliahna Lemmon, who was killed shortly before Christmas.
Beginning Tuesday, the school will be collecting money for the memorial, according to an announcement issued by Fort Wayne Community Schools.
The school is encouraging students and staff to each bring in $1 or whatever they might be able to share.
With each donation, students will receive a small memorial picture and poem.
The money will be used to buy two trees to be planted in Aliahna’s memory. One will be planted in the school’s outdoor lab, near the classroom where Aliahna studied; the other will be planted near the front of the school.
A portrait of Aliahna and an art project she created will hang as a memorial inside the school. In addition, a donation will be made to Riley Children’s Foundation in memory of Aliahna.
The trees will be planted in the spring, with a dedication ceremony to be conducted in her honor. All students who made a donation will receive a small bottle of bubbles for the ceremony.
Donations may be sent to: Holland Elementary School, Aliahna Memorial Fund, 7000 Red Haw Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46807.
