Landlords get tips to deter meth renters

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Southwestern Indiana landlords dealing with the region’s methamphetamine woes are getting advice on how to avoid renting to people who might turn their rental space into meth labs.

The Evansville Courier & Press reported (http://bit.ly/zQPju7) that about 100 landlords, real estate agents and residents attended Wednesday’s meth education class hosted by the Vanderburgh County Health Department.

Attorney Jeffrey A. Wilhite with the Apartment Association of Southern Indiana urged them to adopt detailed lease agreements with clearer rules to deter meth addicts from considering their properties as home.

Jerry Nord owns 19 properties around Evansville and said he attended the class to learn more about how to protect his business.

State Police say Vanderburgh County had Indiana’s highest number of meth cases last year for the second straight year.
