Kelsey Barlow was dismissed from the Purdue basketball team and D.J. Byrd was suspended for Sunday's game against Michigan State, coach Matt Painter announced in a news release Friday.
Both actions are a result of violation of team rules.
The Lafayette Journal and Courier reported earlier that Byrd had been arrested on charges of public intoxication on Friday. According to the newspaper, Barlow was involved in an incident at a bar preceding Byrd's arrest.
"This is an unfortunate situation, but we will move forward as a program," Painter said in a statement. "We expect our student-athletes to live up to a high standard, and when their actions become detrimental to the program, there are consequences."
