Well, that was one of the weirder, wilder periods I've covered in 15 seasons.
And it has the Komets trailing the Bloomington Blaze 4-2.
Less than two minutes in, all heck broke loose when Fort Wayne's Bryant Molle started pummeling Ryan Palmer, the hated Blaze player who concussed Brett Smith on a clip and Colin Chaulk (who is out tonight) during a fight Tuesday.
Bloomington goalie Brian Mahoney-Wilson came out to get at Molle, then Fort Wayne goalie Nick Boucher came down the ice and gave Mahoney-Wilson the sucker punch of the century.
When it was all sorted out, the Komets had to kill off five minutes of 5-on-3. And since they were major penalties, Bloomington could score as many as possible without someone coming out of the box.
The Blaze got goals from Kyle Laughlin and Doug Krantz. The Komets then got a short-handed breakaway goal from Frankie DeAngelis. The Komets still had a third major to kill off, though, and Jon Booras scored for the Blaze before DeAngelis got another short-handed goal.
A turnover led to a goal by Bloomington's Travis Granbois -- the only even-strength goal of the period.
