Canterbury coach to guide all-stars

– The Indiana Girls All-Stars will be led against Kentucky again by a Fort Wayne coach.

Canterbury’s Scott Kreiger has been named as the head coach of the Indiana team, one year after Concordia’s Dave Miller was bestowed the same honor.

“Being selected to coach the Indiana All-Stars is one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a (Indiana) high school coach,” Kreiger said.

“I am looking forward to all the exciting events associated with the Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series.”

The Indiana-Kentucky All-Star series will be June 8 in Kentucky and June 9 in Indianapolis.

Kreiger is 249-88 in 14 years at the school, with three state championships in 2008-10.

The Cavaliers are 23-2 this year, ranked No. 1 in Class A and will play Riverton Parke on Saturday in the semistate at Plymouth.

Luers star honored

Bishop Luers junior linebacker Jaylon Smith was named the overall MVP at Monday’s Best of the Midwest Showcase in Indianapolis.

The 6-foot-3, 202-pounder ran a 4.44 in the 40-yard dash, the fastest official time of the Showcase.

Luers teammate Kendrick Mullen was named the defensive MVP.
