Child, 2, drowns in baptism pool

A 2-year-old boy drowned in a baptismal pool at a church on the northwest side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis police officers say child-care workers at Praise and Worship Assembly of God found the unresponsive child in 2 feet of water in the pool Wednesday afternoon. The child, who wasn’t immediately identified, died at St. Vincent Hospital.

IU South Bend fires tenured professor

A tenured associate professor of law and society at Indiana University South Bend has been fired for what the university describes as serious personal and professional misconduct.

The South Bend Tribune reported that Otis Grant’s last day was Dec. 31. Responding to a public records request from the newspaper, the university said the misconduct was primarily based on representations he made when he was hired and subsequently during his tenure.

Training day shuts Fox Island center

The Nature Center at Fox Island County Park will be closed from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today for employee training.

The park will be open during normal operating hours, and the Nature Center at Metea County Park will operate with normal operating hours.
