LOS ANGELES — Supporters of a measure requiring adult film actors to wear condoms on shoots in Los Angeles County say they've already collected most of the signatures they need to get on the November ballot.
The AIDS Healthcare Foundation said in a statement Monday that in two months the organization has collected more than half the 232,153 signatures it needs, and it has three months left.
The group is holding a news conference today to talk about its progress.
County officials have said the issue is best left to the state, and the porn industry has opposed the move, saying it already does extensive testing and performers should be able to choose whether to use condoms.
Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa signed a similar ordinance for the city last month.
