2 juveniles charged with robbing couple

Two juveniles were arrested Monday in Steuben County after allegedly holding a married couple at gunpoint and robbing them of prescription medication.

Officers were dispatched to a home just west of Angola about 11 a.m. to a reported home invasion, the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement. A woman told police that she and her husband were robbed at gunpoint of their prescription drugs by two juveniles who fled on foot.

A K-9 led police to a location that prompted investigators to believe a vehicle was waiting for them. Officers gathered information at the scene from the victims and were led to a residence near Lake Gage.

A search of a residence there was conducted and the juveniles, both age 17, were taken in for questioning. During the search, police found the guns police said were used during the robbery. Also recovered were methamphetamine, marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and multiple paraphernalia items, the statement said.

Police said both male juveniles later confessed to the robbery and were arrested and taken to a juvenile detention facility.

A woman at the residence, Laura Kaczmarek, also was arrested for possession of narcotics, being a felon in possession of a firearm and maintaining a common nuisance.

The Steuben County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and possibly charge the juveniles as adults because of the serious nature of the crime, the statement said.
