New Haven Mayor Terry McDonald has become the first mayor in northeast Indiana to endorse the re-election of Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind.
Lugar "is a proven leader who has helped our area, state and nation through his honesty, dedication and commitment to public service," McDonald said in a statement released by Lugar's campaign. "We are so fortunate to have Senator Lugar fighting the good fight for private-sector jobs and against the uncertainty brought on by liberal regulations, spending and debt."
Lugar's campaign said McDonald is the 28th mayor in Indiana to endorse Lugar.
A senator since 1977, Lugar is challenged in the May 8 Republican primary election by state Treasurer Richard Mourdock.
