Apollo hall of fame to add Richie, James


Singer-songwriter Lionel Richie and the late Etta James will be inducted into the Apollo Theater’s hall of fame.

The ceremony will be held at the historic Harlem theater June 4.

Past Apollo Legends Hall of Fame inductees include Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin and Patti Labelle.

Batali settles suit

Celebrity chef Mario Batali and his business partner have agreed to pay $5.25 million to settle a lawsuit that alleged they confiscated a portion of their restaurant workers’ tips.

According to court papers filed in Manhattan federal court, the settlement may compensate as many as 1,100 waiters, captains and other staffers.

The settlement must still be approved by a judge.

Midler honored

Bette Midler’s voice has helped make songs such as “Wind Beneath My Wings” classics, and now she’ll be honored for it.

Midler is set to receive the Sammy Cahn Lifetime Achievement Award at the Songwriters Hall of Fame on June 14 in New York.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame is inducting Bob Seger, Gordon Lightfoot, Don Schlitz, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones, and Jim Steinman this year.

Performers tapped

Kenny Chesney, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Miranda Lambert and Toby Keith are among the stars who will perform at the Academy of Country Music Awards next month.

Eric Church and Luke Bryan round out the first wave of performers announced by the academy on Thursday.

Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton co-host the 47th annual awards show, which will air live April 1 from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on CBS.

Church and Bryan also will headline the ACM’s free concerts at Fremont Street Experience on March 30 and 31.

Dove hosts set

Actor David Mann of Tyler Perry’s sitcom “Meet the Browns” and Christian comedian Chonda Pierce will share the stage for the Dove Awards.

Mann and Pierce will co-host the 43rd annual awards show, which will be taped April 19 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and aired on GMC on April 24.
