While Komets fans may be crying foul about the Evansville IceMen's announcement that they have signed Maxime Boisclair, a fairly significal player, it is well within the rules, the CHL has informed me.
While there was a deadline of Feb. 13 for CHL teams to sign players who had been in Europe, the IceMen inked an agreement with Boisclair prior to that date and he was allowed to finish his season in France.
He had 16 goals and 34 points in 26 games with Epinal.
I'm told there may be other players with similar agreements that arrive this week, too, so they can play their mandatory three regular-season games to qualify for the CHL playoffs.
The reason for the confusion on this issue in Fort Wayne is that the rules in the IHL, where the Komets played until 2010, were different. In the IHL, the players had to have left Europe by the deadline, Komets general manager David Franke said.
